Benedict Schaller II and his wife, Rosina Haeni were born in Diessbach, Switzerland and immigrated Ohio in 1851. They settled in Perrysburg, Ohio. Ancestry is traced to his grandfather, Hans Schaller who was born in Diessbach in 1759 and married Anna Moy in 1785.

The Benedict Family History News assisted American researchers to learn more about ancestors surnamed Benedict (and its variations). A typical issue included census compilations; book reviews; transcriptions of letters, diaries, newspaper notices, and vital records; corrections to previously published works about the Benedicts; and other miscellaneous information related to past or present.   Many decades ago, as a young Benedictine, I first met (while reading a book, of course) the great man known as the Father of English History—Bede. I was an undergrad studying church history and English history, so Bede’s life and times interested me and prompted me to go on to study in some depth a number of the Benedictines he mentions.
