T.S. Eliot is one of the most important and influential poets of the twentieth century. His unique and innovative evocations of the folly and poetry of humanity helped reshape modern literature, with poems such as "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," included here, and most notably, the title poem, "The Waste Land," his ground breaking masterpiece of postwar decay and redemption. T. S. Eliot claimed in his essay "Reflections on Vers Libre" that so-called "free verse" is a fallacious category—that its apparent divergence from so-called "formal verse" is only an simplifying engine, a combiner of binary oppositions, is beautifully applicable to other generic categories—particularly that of the prose poem.

    T. S. Eliot () as a poet and critic came to define the modernist movement and still dominates the literary landscape of the last century. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to a prominent local family. He attended Harvard. Time in the Poetry of T. S. Eliot A Study in Structure and Theme. Authors; Nancy K. While it’s become a National Poetry Month cliché to reference “The Waste Land’s” famous opening line, “April is the cruellest month,” it seems particularly apt now, as if T.S. Eliot.
